Music Monday

still no baby.  today is the due date.  hopefully soon though.

alas, there is good news.  that means there's time for me to crank out a music blog (i was lazy last week).

this blog is special because it will be a compilation of many of the good recommendations of my facebook friends.  enjoy!

5 - the wedding band - she said yes
the wedding band is an offshoot of mumford & sons that is them plus some friends.  a lovely friend, book club member and minister, stacey recommended this jam.

4 - jack white - sixteen saltines
gavin recommended this one, and he's always got his ear to the ground with music.  actually, he just selected the artist/album.  i chose the single.  i'm fancy too.

3 - hurray for the riff raff - look out mama
melinda took time out of her busy bar-studying schedule to recommend this one.  she's a smarty, so you should be a smarty too, and listen to it.

2 - the head and the heart - lost in my mind
i used to babysit elizabeth.  now, she's recommending music.  that makes me feel good.  and old.

1 - emile sande - next to me
the olympics and vh1 recommended this one to me.  i hope you'll enjoy it too.

i hope you enjoy this week's music--it might be the last you get for awhile!  thanks to all my friends for the recommendations!

cheers!

Mike Tyson!

mike tyson has been doing the talk show rounds plugging his broadway show, "mike tyson:  undisputed truth."

needless to say, i am obsessed with it.

here are some of my favorites:

5 - mike tyson pleads the fifth with andy cohen

4 - mike tyson gets serious on the today show

\
3- mike tyson discusses the nj housewives and bankruptcy

2 - mike tyson discussed doing dumb things while high on conan
(this was earlier this year when he was promoting the vegas show)

1 - mike tyson's commercial in poland that has been featured in multiple interviews.

also, he was hilarious on jimmy fallon, but there's no clips posted yet :(  i recommend searching them when they come through though.

cheers!

Music Monday!!

i have gotten so many wonderful suggestions for music in the past week that i can only fit a couple into this post.  the good news is that means i have much to fill the coming weeks' posts with though, so yay!

(that is assuming that there are posts in the coming weeks -- with the due date quickly approaching, that's questionable.)

let's not waste time though.  here are this week's jams.

5 - ed sheeran - the class a team
this is a sad song.  some of my facebook friends are confused about that, but really it is about a crack whore (essentially), so not something you should compare to your life most likely.  still, it's just a beautiful song, and i love ed sheeran, so here you go.

4 - birdy - 1901 (phoenix cover)
if you haven't noticed, i've been trying to use the four spot on the list for a cover each week.  i do this for two  reasons - 1) i like covers (see earlier posts on just covers for details) 2) i think covers are good ways to get acquainted with new artists because it shows both their talents and some of their influences.

so, i was watching conan the other night, and birdy came on.  she was singing her single, "skinny love," but i decided to look her up, and i found her cover of 1901, and loved it.  enjoy!

3 - allen stone - unaware
i watched the espys.  and the preshow.  it's always such an awkward awards show.  rob riggle got a lot of negative feedback, but i thought he was okay, not great, but there were points when i was lolling.  during the preshow though, i got introduced to the magic of allen stone.  what a voice.

2 - grace potter and the nocturnals - never go back
this is not the first grace potter post.  it probably won't be the last.  also, i'm not sure i know what's happening in this music video.  please inform me.

1 - the lumineers - ho hey
my first exposure to this one was on the vh1 countdown this past weekend, and i was into it.  then, someone recommended it, so i knew it had to go in to this week's blog.

i hope you enjoyed this week's list.  there's a lot of great stuff coming soon.  if you have more recommendations, please feel free to post in the comments, and, as always, cheers!

I wear flats. You should too.

confession time:  i don't wear heels.

okay, that's a stretch, but i rarely wear heels (and then i usually regret it.)  i know heels would make my gigantic feet look slightly less gigantic (no, for real, i wear a size 11), but i just prefer comfort.  plus, i'm on my feet most of the time, my husband and i are already the same height and i don't like to tower...the excuses go on forever, but the basic premise is this.  i don't wear heels.

this does not mean i don't love shoes though.  i do.  i think some of my high-heel wearing sisters could probably benefit from some more flats in their lives, and i know those that are commited to the life of comfort probably need to swank up their flat wardrobe a bit.  so, i 've compiled a list of flats that every woman should own.

5 - ballet flat
this is the basic, the lbd of shoes.  most people swear by a classic pump (which i don't disrespect) -- i swear by a basic ballet flat.

you should own at least two pair - one black and one nude color.  after that, feel free to mix it up with fun colors and patterns.

here are some suggestions:

ballet flats

Reed Krakoff ballet shoes

Bloch ballet shoes
$88 - zenggi.com

Ash ballet shoes
$145 - jades24.com

Toast ballerina flat
$99 - toast.co.uk

4 - pointed toe flats

these are like the responsible, older sister of the ballet flats.  if you get a cheap pair, you might sacrifice a bit of the comfort of the ballet, but you'll always look quite put together.  these work much better than the ballet flat with work clothes, particularly pants.  again, neutral colors are nice to have, but i personally swear by a good pair of animal print pointy flats.

here are some i like:

3 - a "masculine" flat

here's a fun, quirky shoe.  i prefer my masculine shoe to be an oxford or a loafer, but really, this is where you get to have fun.  i use these shoes to add a little spunk to a basic outfit.  an oxford brings a touch of retro fun to a skirt or dress.  a fun loafer adds a punch of personality to a basic day-to-day outfit.  pair either with a cute pair of cropped pants and instantly look chic.

here're my suggestions:

2 - a sandal

if you don't already have some flat sandals, you're behind.  regardless, you can't mention a list of must-have flats without mentioning a sandal.  flat sandals are effortless cool and work with sundresses, shorts, and, when done right, spring/summer work apparel.  use caution there though because you don't want to look too casual.  also, i love a metallic sandal.  i practically live in a simple pair of gold sandals i bought at old navy.

here're a few:

Sam Edelman thong sandals

Dune nude shoes

1 - comfy shoes

seriously, if you don't own a comfortable pair of flats already, close the browser and go buy some now.  this can include toms (it should), chucks, tennis shoes, something to wear when you wanna take a walk or wear a t-shirt.  you shouldn't live in these shoes, but they are essential to you wardrobe, and there's no need to sacrifice the cuteness here either.

here are some i like:

comfy flats

New Balance lace up sneaker

TOMS shoes
$69 - blueberries-online.com

Boden satin flat shoes
$60 - boden.co.uk

what are your must own shoes?  flats, heels, wedges?  is there one particular pair you couldn't live without?  let me know!

until next time, cheers!
